My Writing Journey

Hey friends! I am so excited to share this new journey with you guys. As some may know i just recently released my first devotion book in late December and since then i have been a busy bee! All of the orders and support have been overwhelming yet so rewarding and I am beyond thankful for everyone who has ordered or sent such kind words my way.

Yes i have been crazy busy since the release, but that hasn't stopped me from writing! And I have some exciting news to share...

I am currently working on my second book and hoping to meet my summer release date. While i have loved writing devotions and don't plan on stopping any time soon, I have decided to venture into the world of clean Romance/Comedy novels. Throughout writing this new novel, i have fallen in love with the characters and story line and i know you guys will too! I am so excited and can't wait to share it with you all soon.

As a new indie author, there has been a lot that i have learned about the writing and self- publishing world that i really wanted to share with others. I was actually recently asked to speak with some students at a local school about this whole process and while i sat at my desk wondering what i was going to say to a group of 7th and 8th graders; i realized that there are probably quite a few people that could benefit from hearing someone else's story and opinions on this process.

One thing that I have learned since i started writing, is that not every day is a good day. There are days where i can write chapters on chapters, and there are other days where i struggle to form a sentence. I get disappointed and question whether i even like it at all anymore. I still have days where i don't think i know what i am doing and act like i have never done this before! There are times that i have zero ideas for what comes next and other times where my mind is flooded with all different kinds of ideas. (Like when i have ideas while showering and have to type an entire scene into my notes app lol)

You never know what that writing session may hold, but its a great idea to try anyways.

When i first started this new book, i sat at my computer and just poured out the entire prologue. It just came to me and i started writing; before i even had an outline prepared. I remember staring at that prologue for weeks trying to figure out the words to write next. I had no ideas. ZERO! I would write a few sentences and then delete all of it. It just wasn't perfect how i wanted it to be. But one thing to remember is that it wont be perfect on the first try. I still have a lot to learn and i am slowly getting the hang of it each day but i have learned that perfection isn't the goal on the first try. And if you know me you've probably heard me say it 1000x over... The process of writing is ultimately just rewriting! Get all your ideas on the page and go back to them later. You may write what you thought at the time was the best scene you've written and then go back to it the next day and absolutely hate it. The pieces will fall together eventually. Writing is just rewriting! You will start to get the hang of it soon. Don't stress yourself on one sentence or one scene, you still have the rest of the book to write! Keep writing and never stop telling your story! Everyone has one, so what's yours?
