Faith to Move Mountains!

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.

Matthew 17:20

Hey there guys! I was scrolling through TikTok a few days ago and I came across a video from a girl named Kelsey Irvin. She does short little Bible studies and Bible journaling on TikTok and I just love to watch her videos. I came across a video that she had made a while back about the woman that touched Jesus and it really spoke to me, so I wanted to share this story with you guys today.

This story is in both Matthew (Matthew 9:18-26) and Mark (Mark 5:21-43).

-The backstory:

One of the rulers by the name of Jarius, came unto Jesus and fell at his feet. He explained to Jesus, “My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.” (Mark 5:23) So Jesus went and many people followed.

-The Woman Who Touched Jesus:

Then came a diseased woman, who had spent all that she had on doctors trying to make her well. The doctors couldn’t find anything that bettered her health, and she grew worse.

When she heard of Jesus she pushed her way through the crowd knowing that if she could only touch Him, then she would be made well.

Take a moment to imagine that huge crowd of people following Jesus to watch as he goes to heal Jarius’ daughter. Picture the sick woman encouraging herself to keep going forward and keep pushing her way through the crowd just so she could touch Jesus.

I’m sure that wasn’t an easy task for that sick woman, but she had faith that by touching Him, she would be made whole.

For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be made whole.

Mark 5:28

She made her way through the crowd and touched Jesus’ garment. The woman immediately felt in her body that she was healed. And Jesus turned around and said, “Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.” And the woman was made whole from that hour. (Matthew 9:22)

The woman’s faith is what healed her. And her faith was enough!

-Jarius’ Daughter:

From there Jesus went into the house of the ruler to heal his daughter. There came a man to tell Jarius that his daughter was dead and he didn’t need to bother Jesus anymore. When Jesus heard what the man had said he replied, “Be not afraid, only believe.” (Mark 5:36)

Jesus encouraged them to remain faithful in His good works.

Jesus went in to where the daughter laid and explained that she was not dead, but only sleeping. Many laughed at and doubted Jesus, but He didn’t let that stop Him from doing His work.

Jesus went in and took the daughter by the hand, and she arose. And he gave them an opportunity to share the good works of Jesus with everyone in the land.

But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

Matthew 9:25-26

I love this story because even in the desperate position that the woman was in, she was determined to keep trying and pushing her way through the crowd. That is something that we as Christians need to remember. Through all the darkness and struggles in life, if we remain faithful and determined to get close enough to touch Jesus we will be healed. We are never out of His reach! He longs to restore us and respond to our faith with love, hope, and peace. We need to learn how to have faith like that woman, the faith to know that all we have to do is get close to Jesus.

We all have a faith that can move mountains, so let’s use it!
