What's the Plan?

Have you ever been asked the questions,

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” or “What is your plan for the future?”

Duh!

I think just about everyone has at some point in their life. As time goes on and as you start to get older that once simple question starts to mean a bit more. The answer isn’t that simple and easy. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel! Finding your calling and purpose in Christ can be overwhelming at times but trust me it’s well worth it.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

There is so much pressure in discovering what your calling and purpose is. At times it feels like we are expected to have our whole lives planned out before graduation.

But it just doesn’t work that way!

However, the most important calling is to follow Christ and have faith. Yes, it can be difficult or take time to truly understand God’s plan for our lives but once we take the initial step then we are that much closer to it being revealed.

One thing we do need to understand though is that God’s calling for our lives isn’t always just a career or profession.

It is much broader than that!

And sometimes God doesn’t just reveal it to you that easily. I tried so hard to figure it out for myself until one day I realized that maybe I shouldn’t be chasing my calling but instead chasing the God who calls ME.

Wow! Think about how powerful that is.

We as humans can get so caught up in this world that we stray away from the path that God has placed for us. We get distracted by the enemy and our worldly desires that we end up walking down the wrong path. But in walking with Christ, we will eventually stumble upon our calling and Gods plan for our life. It’s just a matter of time.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

God has given each of us a specific gift to be used towards His purpose. That is where we find our calling. Whether it’s singing, teaching, mission work, or our profession; it is there for a reason. Each gift is important and is to be used to share the gospel and love that we have for Jesus. In turn, we can encourage others to find their gifts also. In a way we all share the same overall purposes, but God uniquely created us to live out those purposes in different ways. What our future holds and the plan that He has for us is not ours to determine.

Things to do when trying to figure out God’s calling and purpose for your life:

· Identify and use your gifts

· Walk with Him

· Spend time in His Word

· Pray

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:10

Like I mentioned in my last blog post; if we didn’t have a purpose and calling in this life, then we wouldn’t be here. God is not done with you; He is just getting started!

  • I understand that living a life for Jesus isn’t always easy and at times it feels defeating but just remember that God’s not done with you, and He does have a plan for your life, whether you know that yet or not. The journey to finding your calling can be frustrating but trust me, the destination is so rewarding! I encourage each of you to go listen to the song “God’s not done with you” by Tauren Wells. One of my favorites for sure!
